    Nancy E. Rhodes-Johnson is a nationally known, award-winning working artist.
    Nancy
    is on the faculty at Lansing Community College since 2001.

    of Art at
    Temple
    University
    with degrees in Fine Art and Art Education.
    She also holds a degree in Art and Design from Rochester Institute of Technology.

    Nancy
    worked as a middle school art teacher
    in the Bensalem, PA school district for many years. In 1980, Nancy and her family moved to
    Syracuse
    ,
    NY
    where she spent the next 25 years working as a freelance artist and illustrator.
    Some of her clients have included Apple Computer, Atlantic Oil, Bristol Meyers, Cornell University, Syracuse University,
    Carrier Corporation, Agway, Hines
    Corporation, Laubach Publishing, the City of
    Syracuse
    , Fay’s Drugs, Endicott Johnson,
    US
    government, Remington Steel as well as
    numerous private commissions. Her work
    has appeared in many books, magazines, news papers, other media and permanently resides in state and federal buildings across
    the country.
    In 1993, the Onondaga County Executive’s Office in
    Syracuse
    ,
    NY
    , along with the
    Everson
    Museum
    and a veterans committee, commissioned
    Nancy
    to create two, twenty foot paintings for the city’s newly renovated War Memorial. One painting was on
    Vietnam
    , the other on the Korean War.
    Nancy
    chose to include two female soldiers as central figures in these paintings, working side by side with the men. Both paintings were so well received by veterans and non-
    veterans alike,
    they became popular attractions in
    Syracuse.
    In 1998, a veterans committee along with the VA Medical Center in Syracuse, commissioned Nancy to create a floor to ceiling painting depicting, (and dedicated to), our military women, past present and future. Throughout the years, her ‘Women in the Military’ painting has continued to be a symbol of pride, respect and dignity for our military
    women.

    In March 2009 during Women‘s History Month, Nancy had the honor of being the keynote speaker, at the Department of Veterans Affairs in Washington, DC.  A large reproduction of her ‘Women in the Military’ painting is now permanently displayed. While in
    Washington
    , her work was also aquired by the French Embassy.
    Nancy Rhodes received an award from John Gingridge, Assistant Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs and Dr. Irene-Trowell Harris, Director of the Women’s Center at the VA.
    While in Washington, Nancy met with Dr. Jill Biden. They spoke about many topics including the importance of Community Colleges and their shared fondness for the students they teach.

    presented an artist’s proof of her ‘Women in the Military’ poster to Vice President
    Joe and Jill Biden.
    Nancy presented artist’s proofs to Hillary Clinton, NY Mayor Michael Bloomberg, former Iraqi POW Shoshana Johnson, builder of the Women Veteran’s Memorial in Washington,
    DC; Brigadier General Wilma Vaught, Governor Jennifer Granholm, (this piece hangs in Lansing Michigan's State Capital, below), as well as many other dignitaries.
